Alex Thomas, MD, CCFP (SEM), Dip. Sport Med.

Dr. Alex Thomas is a primary care sport medicine physician with advanced training in musculoskeletal care. Originally from the Annapolis Valley, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Acadia University while competing on the varsity men’s basketball team. He earned his MD at McMaster University, completed family medicine residency at Queen’s University, and went on to a sport and exercise medicine fellowship at the University of Ottawa. He holds both the CASEM Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine and the Certificate of Added Competence in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Dr. Thomas is the lead sport medicine physician for Acadia University and has worked with national and international teams, including the U20 and U16 Men’s Canada Soccer programs and Skate Canada International. His previous roles include team physician for the University of Ottawa men’s basketball team and Carleton University men’s lacrosse team, with additional experience covering the CEBL Championship, the Ottawa 67’s, and the North American Indigenous Games.

In addition to his work in Nova Scotia, Dr. Thomas regularly travels to Eabametoong First Nation, a remote fly-in community in northwestern Ontario, to provide sport medicine services in an underserved region. He also works as a surgical assistant at the Valley Regional Hospital.

At Valley Sport Medicine, Dr. Thomas provides comprehensive non-operative musculoskeletal care with a particular focus on ultrasound-guided joint, tendon, and soft-tissue injections to help patients reduce pain, improve function, and return to the activities they enjoy.

Cole Reynolds, MD, CCFP

Dr. Cole Reynolds is a family medicine physician with additional training in sport and exercise medicine. Originally from Toronto, he completed undergraduate studies in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Business at Dalhousie University before earning his medical degree from University College Cork in Ireland. He returned to Nova Scotia for his family medicine residency in Yarmouth, where he gained broad experience in primary care, sport medicine, and emergency medicine.

Dr. Reynolds completed an enhanced skills Sport and Exercise Medicine program with Dr. Thomas through Dalhousie University. He also completed the PoCUS East Course and obtained the CPoCUS Independent Practitioner Certification, in addition to the Level 2 MSK Ultrasound Injections Course through Sport Medicine Ultrasound Canada. He provides game coverage for Acadia University varsity athletics and is working toward the CASEM Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine.

In addition to his work at Valley Sport Medicine, where he focuses on musculoskeletal care and ultrasound-guided procedures, Dr. Reynolds also maintains a family practice in Kentville and works as an emergency medicine physician at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton.

Gabrielle Thomas, BKin

Gabrielle Thomas is a kinesiologist with training and experience in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, exercise prescription, and orthopaedic bracing. Originally from the Annapolis Valley, she completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology at Acadia University before moving to Ontario, where she became a Registered Kinesiologist after successfully passing the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (COKO) entry-to-practice examination. During her time in Ontario, she worked in clinical settings providing exercise-based rehabilitation and supporting patients with a range of musculoskeletal conditions.

A former dancer and dance instructor, Gabrielle has a longstanding interest in movement, injury prevention, and functional performance. At Valley Sport Medicine, she works as a kinesiologist and orthopaedic bracing specialist, offering patient education and individualized brace fitting to support recovery, stability, and long-term joint health.
