About

Valley Sport Medicine is led by Dr. Alex Thomas, a primary care sport medicine physician with specialized training in musculoskeletal care. The clinic is located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and serves patients from the Annapolis Valley and beyond with joint, tendon, and muscle-related conditions. Dr. Thomas provides patient-centered, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s needs and goals, with a focus on improving function and reducing pain.

Originally from the Annapolis Valley, Dr. Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Acadia University while competing on the varsity men’s basketball team. He went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine at McMaster University, a family medicine residency at Queen’s University, and a sport and exercise medicine fellowship at the University of Ottawa. He holds a Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM) and a Certificate of Added Competence in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Dr. Thomas currently serves as the lead sport medicine physician at Acadia University. He has provided medical coverage internationally for the U20 and U16 Men’s Canada Soccer teams and was part of the medical team at the 2024 Skate Canada International. During his fellowship, he served as team physician for the University of Ottawa men’s basketball team and the Carleton University men’s lacrosse team. His additional experience includes coverage for the 2022 CEBL Championship, the Ottawa 67’s, the 2022 Ontario Summer Indigenous Games (as medical lead), and the 2023 North American Indigenous Games in Halifax.

In addition to his practice in Nova Scotia, Dr. Thomas also regularly travels to Sandy Lake First Nation—a remote fly-in community in northwestern Ontario—where he provides sport medicine services to support access to musculoskeletal care in an underserved region.
